For the past few years, I’ve been wrapping all my Christmas presents in melanated wrapping paper and it makes the gift-giving experience all the more joyful. And given the dumpster fire that was most of 2020, I was almost giddy when I found a new Black-owned wrapping paper company while scrolling through Instagram.
Black Paper Party was founded by three Black women who love Black culture, and any type of occasion, and wanted to increase representation, specifically in the paper goods and holiday industries. With this in mind, they have created a collection of wrapping paper and ornaments that does just that.
One of my favorite things about Black Paper Party are the featured characters: Holly and Santa’s Helpers Faith, Christian, Malachi, and Grace. Holly reminds me of the young, single auntie at all the functions who is living her best life. Faith, Christian, Malachi, and Grace are the cutest little kids you’ve ever seen. Faith is rocking a mega puff and Grace has puffy pigtails. Christian has a perfectly formed fro while Malachi’s curls feel a little more free. Each and every single illustration makes my smile grow and my heart warm.
Last year, there were four different wrapping paper designs, each featuring beautiful Black faces. My personal favorite was the “Naughty? Nice? I Tried” paper with all of Santa’s Helpers trying their best to look innocent. It’s reminiscent of the “Do you like me? Check Yes or No” notes we used to pass to our crushes in school, but also perfectly describes what I would have to tell Santa in any given year if he asked. *Shrug*
This year, they have expanded their designs and have eight different illustrations available. These other papers feature nutcrackers, Christmas trees, and jungle prints as well as gnomies, a winter wonderland scene, angels, Santa’s Helpers, and Holly. Each roll is a standard size and costs $18.88. You can also get a bundle with four wrapping paper rolls for $65.00. The paper is high quality and will not rip easily when wrapping.
In addition to wrapping paper, Black Paper Party has ornaments that are just as cute as the wrapping paper. You can get a pack of 2 ornaments for $16.88. These ornaments are also available on Target.com this year, which is super exciting!
I received a shipping confirmation within 24 hours of placing my order and my order was at my door in about 6 days, which made me almost as happy as the wrapping paper itself.
I loved seeing presents wrapped in Black Paper Party wrapping paper under the tree and it’s an image that I will recreate for years to come.
